The fibers of the flax plant, Linum usitatissimum is used to extract the textile known as Linen. The manufacturing procedure is quite tedious and a lot of manual effort. This effort is ideally honored when one find the linen garments exceptionally cool and keeps you fresh amidst hot and humid weather.
The linen-weave texture is also referred to as "linen". But such fabrics usually bear a specific name to itself barring aside the term linen. For instance, fine cotton yarn in a linen-style weave is known as Madapolam.
The combined term ‘linens’ is still used broadly to illustrate a group of woven and even knitted bed, bath, table and kitchen textiles. The name ‘linens’ is preserved because conventionally, linen had been used for many of these items. In the past, the word ‘linens’ had been used to denote lightweight undergarments like shirts, chemises, waist-shirts, lingerie etc. Linen fabrics seem to be among the oldest in the world, with their history going back to as many as thousands of years.
Linen was from time to time used as currency in prehistoric Egypt. Mummies in Egypt were usually linen draped because it was considered to be a symbol of light and purity. It also denoted a sign of wealth. Some of the linen fabrics that were hand woven had a separate benefit during their time. During their time, it was really very fine as a fabric but in today’s time when compared against today’s linen, it is indeed quite crude. Today linen is typically a classy textile that is produced in comparatively small quantity. There are many products that are made out of linen, each of which are light and gives a fresh and cooling sensation. |
