Salwar Kameez

Salwar Kameez also falls under the ancient Indian attire category due to its traits of being popular, versatile, comfortable and stylish at the same time. Salwar kameez is the second most preferable garment after sari which is commonly worn by Indian women. Salwar is basically a loose baggy worn tightly at the waist. The leg fittings of the salwar are wide at the top and gets thinner at the ankle. But its style varies with changing salwar kameez fashion. Kameez is the loose shirt or tunic which is worn with salwar. The salwar kameez is usually but not always combined with a large dupatta/scarf around neck or head.It originated in northern India but soon become popular across the country.
Designers have started using their creative skills in giving this ensemble a smart look that suits all occasions.

Types of Salwar Kameez


Traditional Salwar Kameez:
It is a general combination of a Salwar, a Kameez and a long dupatta. The Kameez extends below the knees and usually have a fitting bust line. It gradually loosens from the hips down to the knees. A traditional Salwar Kameez is perfect for casual dressing. The kameez is usually cut straight and flat with side slit. The side scams are kept open for free movement.

Indo-western Salwar Kameez :
Fusion in terms of style and fashion in the Indian clothing has set in for quite a long time now combining the Indian and western patterns of clothing. This has resulted into the concept of Indo-western Salwar Kameez. This suit is generally short and can be worn with or without a dupatta, stole or scarf. The length of this kurti or shirt is usually above the knees or just below the hips. It can be either in full or half sleeves or sleeveless top or spaghetti straps in place of sleeves.

Casual-wear Salwar Kameez :
The ideal choice for the sultry summers of India is the casual Salwar Kameez. Ranging from ethnic, to traditional, to modern prints – the fabrics used are varied and complements each dressing style.
The best fabric used for casual Salwar Kameez is cotton – remaining cool, elegant and graceful. Casual Salwar Kameez suits any kind of occasion – be it formal or informal. They look the best while going to temples, parties, and eveningwear, while working at home or office.

Party wear Salwar Kameez :
Silk, satin, crepe and georgette – these are the usual fabrics that make the best Party wear Salwar Kameez. They are embellished with heavy embroidery either in hand work or machine work.

Printed Salwar Kameez :
The printed salwar kameez are available in fabrics like cotton, crepe and chiffon etc. Mostly, the Kameez is printed, with the Salwar coming in contrast color and printed dupattas. It may or may not have embroidery on shirt.

Kurta Churidar :
The churidar is tight fitting at the ankle. It is usually cut quite narrow on the bias. It has extra length so that it can be creased up around the ankles to look like gathers. This type of salwar when paired with short kurta looks stylish and trendy.

Short kurta pant :
Short kurta pant is the latest creation which is designed by adopting international fashion in terms of cut and length. Teaming short kurta with parallel pant or capri pants is a perfect formal or office wear. The short Kurta/ kurtis come in various designs and the pants vary from parallel to capris.
